"Special needs" Silky girl ~ Looking for a Home

zoe
~UPDATE 5-9-04~ Zoe's foster mom say's she is doing a whole lot better and has come a long way since entering rescue. While she still has an occasional "episode", this has become rather seldom. Zoe now likes to visit with company and enjoys being made a fuss over! She has turned into quite a little character her foster mom reports. -- We are so happy to hear of Zoe's progress!!

Zoe is an extremely intelligent and a very challenging 6 year old Silky girl. Zoe craves affection and attention. But then, she is unsure what to do with it! She is a "one person" companion when it comes to "trust". She is extremely guarded and will require a person who is willing to give lots of time and patience towards her "special needs development".

"Zoe had zero bite inhibition when she came into rescue", says her Foster Mom. The simple movement of your hand, change in your tone of voice, or external noises could cause her to "react". The past six months have consisted of desensitizing Zoe to movement of hands, developing trust in people, ignoring strange sounds in the home, and learning to control her "temper". Her Foster Mom suspects she learned at a very early age it paid to show off by grumbling and growling loudly.

zoe She also learned the best defense is a good offense! She is very smart and alert girl. Zoe loves to lie on the back of the couch for hours at a time with her human and will cuddle (sometimes). She likes to go for rides in the car but is a "nervous" rider. She enjoys a short walk but can't walk long distances as both back legs are stiff and sore. She must take medicine everyday to help with the stiffness and discomfort in her knees. She requires an owner who has had previous experience with terriers or other "assertive breeds". Her human must be willing to sign an agreement for continued training or can show they have completed extensive animal behavior training classes. A person who has worked with abused or fear aggressive behavior is a plus.
Zoe is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. She is housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside by coming to get you or scratching the door! She wakes up her Foster Dad every morning at 6:00 a.m. to go outside. She will come up into the bedroom and scratch on the side of the bed until he gets up! She does not give up - ever! Zoe weighs about 10 lbs.

We are looking for a wonderful, forever home for Zoe. She is in the Seattle, Washington area. ONLY LOCAL APPLICANTS will be considered, and inquires from out of state applicants will not be answered. No children in the home, no older children, or homes with frequent young visitors will be considered.

Her new family will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care for her and continue to take her to obedience training, and there will be an adoption fee or donation of $150.00.
