Spike and Lady
Best Friends, Looking for a Home
Spike and Lady are lifetime companions. Spike is an 8-year-old Silky Terrier who takes care of his "Lady" love. "Lady" is 9 -year-old toy Fox Terrier who was adopted from a breeder when she was 8 months old. Spike was adopted out of the animal shelter in Washington State, as a lost stray. Their owner thought Lady needed companionship so Spike and Lady came to be lifetime pals. Their owner very reluctantly released her two "children" for adoption, as she is terminally ill and struggles to care for them. The owner had asked a friend to take both dogs a shelter. Jim's wife was at the gas station and adored the dogs in the friend's car when she learned the sad story and where the two dogs were being taken. Jim's wife being an animal person could not let these two go to the shelter, and offered to take the two and find a home for them.
The next day Jim took both dogs for grooming. When he shared the story with the groomer, she posted a note on the board these two were available for adoption. One of our Silky Terrier Rescue friends spotted the note and alerted the club immediately. Gail Riklin in Washington is helping Jim and his wife with the placement.
According to Gail, "Jim tells me they are true-life time companions and must stay together." Both are house broken (no accidents), and Spike leads Lady outside several times a day for their potty breaks. She depends on him completely.
Jim and his wife have another dog of their own, and although they get along just fine his little girl, she is not pleased with the company. Jim and his wife have become very attached to the pair in just two short weeks, but due to health problems they are unable to adopt the pair. Besides says Jim, " my little dachshund is counting the days until they go to new home".
Both Spike and Lady are lap dogs. They like to snuggle on cold rainy mornings and snack while watching TV. According to Jim, "They are extremely well behaved; Spike likes to go for rides in the car, and is in love with my wife; Lady likes to sit on my lap and snuggle."
Jim and his wife have grandchildren and the dogs "tolerate" their presence, but they would benefit from a home where they are the only "kids". We are looking for a home with adults (or possibly only older children), and maybe one other small dog in the home would be considered. Experience with the terrier breed is a plus.
Spike is neutered, and Lady will be spayed before she is placed. They are both up to date on their vaccinations.
This adorable pair of little doggies is being fostered in the Seattle area and adoption applications from that area will be given first consideration. Update 4/21/01: Since we have not found the perfect home for these sweeties in the Seattle area, we are opening up our search for their forever home and will expecially consider placements in the CA, OR, or WA areas.
The family that adopts Spike and Lady will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care for him, and there will be an adoption fee or donation of $200. If you have room in your home and heart this pair of best friends, please fill out an application and mention his name. The application is on-line at http://SilkyRescue.tripod.com/appform.htm. If you have already filled out an application, it is not necessary to re-do it...just email SilkyRescue@yahoo.com.
NOTE: As of 4/26/01, an adoption is pending for Spike and Lady.
