Sasha ~ in the Chicago area

Looking for a Home

Sasha is a very sweet, mature lady. Sasha was found as a stray in the Chicago suburbs and her finder took her to a humane society which contacted rescue.

This little girl has an absolutely wonderful temperament. She is so very sweet and loving. She is gentle and wants to be close to her person, preferably on a lap if possible. She loves to snuggle up and be petted. When she's happy, her little tail wags a mile a minute. Sasha loves to go for walks...when she sees the leash come out, she gets very excited. She likes to patrol the backyard...she's a spunky little gal who prances around and lets everyone know she's there! She has just started to show an interest in some of our many dog toys. Sasha is just a wonderful little dog who will be a marvelous companion for someone.

It's clear that Sasha was terribly neglected. She was nothing but skin and bones when she came to the shelter. She weighed only 6 lbs when I picked her up, but she needs to gain at least a pound or two and she is now eating very well. Sasha's coat is thin and her ears, teeth, and nails had obviously not been cared for in a long time. I also suspect that she has been hit, as she will cower or cringe if a hand suddenly comes her way...

The vet that I took her to estimated her age at 10, however, the shelter vet said she may even be 12. She appears to see and hear well, although she has the beginnings of a cataract. We had a geriatric blood panel and a CBC done, and the only problem found was that she is anemic, and this is being treated with supplements. Sasha is in great need of a full dental, and this will be done before she is placed, but she needs to gain a bit of weight first. Sasha is spayed. She is up to date on her vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventive. She has also been microchipped.

Sasha is a very well behaved little girl. She is housetrained. She will stay in the crate, but she does not like it. When I am not home, Sasha has been staying in a large bathroom...she has her bed and toys in there and she seems quite content. Sasha gets along fine with my other silkys. She stayed with another rescuer while I was out of town and got along fine with the other dogs and cats there.

I'm not certain that Sasha is a purebred silky terrier. We've had several different opinions on this question from silky folks...several think she's definitely a purebred silky, one thinks she could be a purebred yorkie, and a couple of folks think she might be a silky/yorkie mix. Regardless, she's a terrific little lady!

Sasha is such a sweet and loving little dog, and I would like to find a very special home for her. I would prefer not to place her in a home with young children, primarily because she is so small and should be handled with care. I will not place her long distance as I do not want to subject her to the stress of shipping, so I will first consider applicants that live within a day's drive of Chicago.

Sasha's new family will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care for her, and there will be an adoption fee or donation of $100. If you have room in your home and heart for this wonderful, sweet little girl, please fill out an application and mention her name. The application is on-line at http://SilkyRescue.tripod.com/appform.htm. If you have already filled out an application, it is not necessary to re-do it...just email SilkyRescue@yahoo.com.
