Looking for a new Home.
Paddington is a wonderful, cuddly bear of a silky terrier. He is so sweet and affectionate. He really is a lap-dog...he just loves to cuddle up with his people. Paddington came into the rescue program because he was a stray and ended up in a shelter. He's now in a foster home in the Chicago area.
Paddington weighs about 10 lbs. As you can see from his picture, he is a really cute little guy. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He has recently had his teeth cleaned, as well. He has had blood tests done this summer and they showed no problems. Paddington does have a problem with his left rear leg - it is shorter than his other leg and he has arthritis in that hip. That doesn't keep him from getting around, though...he is just about as active as my 3 year old silky.
This little guy is very fun-loving and affectionate. He loves to play with one of my other silky boys, chasing each other around and play-wrestling. Just about the only thing he seems to like more than playing with his foster brother is being petted and getting tummy and neck rubs. This boy is like a sponge, soaking up all of the attention he can get from his people. He really likes to sit by a person, either on the floor or on the sofa, for petting...I think he'd stay this way for hours.
He is pretty well-behaved, although he needs some training - so far he's learned his new name and he will sit on command. He walks fairly well on a leash, pulling some when he gets excited. He does very well in the crate - he's had no potty accidents in the crate at his foster home and goes in quietly. He barks when he hears the garage door open, but otherwise he's quiet in the crate.
Paddy loves to lounge in the grass.
Paddington does need to continue to work on housetraining. He does like to "leave his mark" in the house sometimes. He wears a "belly band" in the house at his foster home and this takes care of the problem. I believe his housetraining is continuing to improve, but it's going to take a long time to get this completely solved.
Paddington is probably about 10 years old. He has plenty of energy and pep...personally I have a hard time believing he's 10.
Paddington gets along fine with my other silkys (both males), however, he tends to be jealous of attention given to the other dogs, so he would probably do best in a home with no other dogs, or maybe with one other dog. He does not seem to like cats. He needs to be placed in a home with no children. Paddington's new family must be able to spend alot of time with him. He really loves being with people and will be unhappy if he is left alone too much.
I am very fond of Paddington...he's been with me now for almost 6 months. He is really a precious little guy. He's not perfect, as the information on this page indicates. But he is a sweet, affectionate little guy who will make a wonderful pet for the right person.
I will only place Paddington in a home that is within driving distance of the Chicago area. The adopter will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care Paddy, and there will be an adoption fee or donation of $100. If you have room in your home and heart for Paddington, please fill out an application and mention his name. The application is on-line at http://SilkyRescue.tripod.com/appform.htm. If you have already filled out an application, it is not necessary to re-do it...just email SilkyRescue@yahoo.com.
