Duncan Little Dog ~ in New Jersey
Looking for a Home
Duncan Little Dog will celebrate his 1st birthday on Mother's Day! Duncan is all Silky, he is so active it was hard to get a picture of him. Duncan needs an extra special home with someone who can give him lot's of attention. Duncan spent most of his young life in a pet store cage in Brooklyn, NY. A very nice woman from Staten Island first noticed Duncan in the pet store window when he was only 8 weeks old. During her trips to Brooklyn over several months she kept seeing him in that same cage that ws quickly becoming to small for him. The lady from Staten Island could no longer stand to see little Duncan spending his days turning around in that small cage and shredding the papers on the cage floor. When Duncan was 2 days shy of 9 months old she negotiated with the pet store owner and bought him with the sole purpose of making sure he got a good home. The lady contacted rescue and a volunteer from New Jersey picked him up and took him home where he is now being fostered.
Due to his long confinement in a very small cage, Duncan was very hesitant to sleep in a crate at night. With lots of patience Duncan's foster mom encouraged him and helped him to not be afraid of a crate. Duncan will now lay down in a crate on his own if he thinks no one is watching him. Duncan is quickly learning to go in his crate at night when his foster mom say "go in your house" . Duncan has learned that if he goes in his house on his own he will get a special treat.
The ideal home for Duncan will be with someone who is home for most of the day, or works from home. He needs to learn how to walk on a leash better, and he needs to be housebroken. Duncan needs a home with someone who is active and experienced with Silky Terriers. Duncan is a very active Silky who loves to please and would make a good agility dog. To cover more ground in a shorter period of time Duncan takes long strides and then leaps to his destination! He loves to play tug of war, and play with squeaky toys, his favorite sport seems to be chasing the cats in his foster home. Duncan loves to be groomed, he stands still for his bath and likes to be brushed since he always wants to look his best. Duncan has been neutered, all his shots are up to date and he is on heartworm preventative.
We are looking for a wonderful, forever home for Duncan. He is in a foster home in New Jersey at this time. Preference will be given to local applicants. Duncan's new family will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care for him, and there will be an adoption fee or donation.
