Bambi - in the Chicago area

Looking for a Home

Update 7/21/02: An adoption is pending for Bambi.

bambiBambi is a very sweet little silky lady who is currently living in a foster home in northwest Indiana (near Chicago). She's looking for a home of her very own.

Bambi and two other silkys were abandoned in a cemetery in the Chicago area. (The other two are not ready for adoption yet.) The vet estimates that Bambi is about 8 to 10 years old. She is very, very sweet and very quiet. She's been here over a week now and I have not yet heard her bark. She's friendly to people, in fact she really loves to sit in your lap and keep you company. She gets along fine with my other two silkys. I haven't seen her with cats, but I would be surprised if she didn't get along with them.

After she was rescued from the pound where she ended up, Bambi saw the vet and got her shots updated. She was tested for heartworm and is on heartworm prevention. She was also spayed and had a dental. Bambi had a mammary tumor which was also removed. As you can see, Bambi has been through quite a lot. She also had kennel cough which she probably caught when she was in the pound. In spite of it all, she's loving and sweet, and she's really bouncing back. She is extremely thin...all skin & bones is an accurate description. However, she is eating well and I expect she'll start to fill out soon (right now she weighs 8.5 lbs). She will not be ready to go to her new home for a couple of weeks, as we want to make sure she has fully recovered from her surgery and from the kennel cough.

We've seen no indication at all of aggressiveness from Bambi. She seems very gentle, calm, and laid back. I believe she was probably housetrained in the past, as she is pretty good in that area, but we are working on "brushing up" a bit. She enjoys going out for walks and walks nicely on the leash.

bambi
bambi I think she needs to go to a home with only adults, or maybe one with older kids. This is not because of any concern about Bambi's behavior, but because she would probably do best in a calm environment. She's not real playful, and for that reason I don't think she'd be a good match with a family with small children.Oh yes, one more thing...Bambi also has a special accessory...a full tail! It doesn't have much hair on it right now, but she sure knows how to wag it when she's happy!

Update 7/7/02: Bambi went back to the vet this week to have her stitches out and she seems to be doing well. She is still on antibiotics for her kennel cough, but that is improving. Over the last few days, we have come to the realization that Bambi is very hard of hearing. We think she has a little hearing, but are not entirely sure of that. She continues to be friendly, completely non-aggressive and calm, and her brush-up on housetraining is coming along nicely.

We are looking for a wonderful, forever home for Bambi. She is in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana area at this time. A local placement is preferred. Bambi's new family will be expected to sign a contract agreeing to provide proper care for her, and there will be an adoption fee or donation.

If you have room in your home and heart for Bambi, please fill out an application and mention her name. The application is on-line at http://SilkyRescue.tripod.com/appform.htm. If you have already filled out an application, it is not necessary to re-do it...just email Cheryl at SilkyRescueCM@yahoo.com and let her know you are interested in Bambi.
